I am a current sophomore studying English Literature at FIU. I have a spinal disability which has affected my legs since birth which has resulted in many procedures and surgeries on my legs and feet and having to re-learn how to walk multiple times. I use a wheelchair for long distances but try to walk as much as I can.
The photographs are meant to represent my own sense of freedom, enjoying the outdoors and not having to rely on my wheelchair as much as I used to. Participating in BBP has been so uplifting for me and has shown me that art can raise the narrative to help dispel stereotypes surrounding disabilities, and in turn, has helped improve my own body image.
My photographer, Gia, and I have had such fun planning and then completing the photoshoot, and I would highly recommend The Bold Beauty Project to anyone who needs a confidence boost or wants to help raise awareness of people with disabilities. We all have beauty within us, we just need to let go of our fears and let it shine!
